DIY: Marble Vinyl Overlay

Step by Step Guide of how to use overlay to upscale your furniture.

I bought this Ikea MICKE desk a couple of years ago and after many years of writing, painting and crafts, I wanted to give it a new lease of life, cover up some of the ink stains that I could not get out, and give it a finish that is easier to clean.

I covered my beauty table in this and loved it so decided to also do the same for my desk. It is super simple and will completely upgrade whatever you want to apply it to.I love the finished effect and thought I would show you how I did it.

What you will need:

  • General cleaning products

  • Marble Sticky Back Plastic

  • A Squeegee

STEP 1:

Clean the table and let it dry.

STEP 2:

Measure the table, the back of the marble covering has markings on it that will help you cut to the line, however make sure if in doubt to over-cut as it is possible to trim it down once you've cut it or even once it's applied.

STEP 3:

Apply a bit at a time, using a squeegee to push all of the air bubbles out and give a smooth application. After applying stick back plastic both with and without a squeegee, I promise you the £2.50 is worth it - it is soft yet hard so will push the bubbles out without ripping or scratching the vinyl.

And that's it - it is simple and looks so amazing - there are lots of different designs so if you don't like marble you can choose something else, in fact even a clear vinyl sticky back can be applied just to protect your surfaces.

I hope you enjoyed and if you end up doing it yourself, make sure you leave a picture below.
